FACS 241 Architectural Drafting
The Palmer Residence
Cover Sheet
The cover sheet of this semester long project includes the title of the project, the address, the professionals involved, the site location, an index of drawings, abbreviations, and reference symbols used within the drawings.
Phase 1:
Demolition Plan
The dashed lines represent the walls and kitchen peninsula to be removed. It also shows the doors, windows, and appliances to be replaced.
Phase 1:
Floor Plan
The added and remaining walls from the demo plan are poché’d in ink. The rooms are defined with furniture. The former study is converted into a guest bedroom with a closet. The kitchen is opened up to provide more counter space. The old washer location became a corner pantry and the former pantry became a linen closet with a stacked washer and dryer.
Phase 2:
Reflected Ceiling Plan
The purpose of an RCP is to show lighting, ceiling fans, exposed beams, smoke detectors, and anything else that is planned to be connected to the ceiling. The ceiling heights in each room are also noted.
Phase 3:
Kitchen Elevation
The kitchen elevations are referenced by the elevation tags on the floor plan. The stove/fridge wall, sink wall, and peninsula are included along with the backsplash, cabinetry, and appliance details.
Phase 4:
Sections & Details
This phase illustrates the internal details of the kitchen cabinets (referenced by the section tags on the kitchen elevation page). Wall details and exposed wooden beams are also included.
Phase 5:
Schedule
The schedule includes elevations of all doors and windows to be placed in the home. These are referenced by the tags on the floor plan.

Isometric Stairs
Using a front, top, and side view reference, I drafted a 3D projection of stairs using an isometric grid.
ADA Restroom
I drafted a floor plan of an ADA compliant men's and women's restroom. Herringbone tile is showcased in the elevation of the women's restroom.

Stair Section
Using a reference photo and given measurements, I drafted this section drawing of a staircase.
Kitchen Elevation
I drafted a kitchen elevation using the given floor plan. I designed the cabinets and refrigerator. I included a cabinet with glass and subway tile backsplash.
Doors & Windows
For this project, I drafted a solid-core door, a hollow-core door, and a double-hung window. I also referenced the different anatomical parts for the doors and windows.
Line Weights
& Gradients
In 10 3x3 boxes I drafted solid lines, dashed lines, and patterns using different lead types (2H, H, HB, & 2B). Then using 2H, HB, & 2B leads, I shaded in a gradient darkest to lightest to practice hand pressure and stability.
